About us

How we help

Everything on this site is free to read and use, nothing is behind a sign-up, and whether you ever talk to a lawyer is entirely your decision.

The short answer

  • Every guide, tool and table on this site is free. Nothing is behind an email wall, a form or a paywall.
  • We're not a law firm. We explain how things generally work and where your state's rules come from; we don't give legal advice.
  • We don't recommend lawyers. We say when you probably don't need one, and what to look for if you decide you do.

People usually arrive here in the middle of a difficult moment, within hours or days of a vehicle accident, often while still dealing with pain, insurance calls and a car that may not be drivable. That moment deserves clear, honest information before anyone tries to sell you anything.

You can read every guide on this site, use every tool and never give us your name, email or phone number. That's deliberate.

What we do

  • Plain-English guides for vehicle accidents (car, truck, rideshare, motorcycle, pedestrian, cyclist, e-bike and e-scooter, commercial vehicle, bus, hit-and-run and uninsured drivers): what to do now, who may be responsible and how claims generally work.
  • Laws by state: each state’s deadlines and rules, each with its statute and the date we last checked it.
  • Public data: the Accident Advisory Index, built from federal datasets and court records, with the method published.
  • Printable tools: checklists, journals and forms that work on paper or on your device, with nothing sent anywhere.

What we don't do

We don’t give legal advice, we don’t represent anyone and we don’t recommend particular lawyers or law firms. We don’t estimate what a claim is worth. We tell you when you probably don’t need a lawyer, because that’s often the honest answer.

Common questions

Is The Accident Advisory a law firm?

No. We are not a law firm, we don't give legal advice and we don't represent anyone. Reading the site doesn't create an attorney–client relationship.

Do I have to give you my information to read the guides?

No. Every guide, checklist and tool is free to use, with no email gate, no sign-up and no paywall. The printable tools keep your ticks on your own device.

How do I know your information is accurate?

Every legal fact is checked against the statute, and every state rule shows the date we last checked it. Our editorial policy sets out the rules every page follows.

The Accident Advisory provides free, general information and is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. Always confirm current law or speak with a licensed attorney in your state.
